The brevity of this review is not an indicator of an insignificant book. This book contains a ‘boat-load’ of fundamental (foundational) biblical truth. These truths are illustrated with personal and biblical stories. The appeal of the book is very broad because of its fundamentals.

“Jesus’ teaching was … provocative.” (22) It destroyed illusions and instead offered reality. Seekers received light (revelation), critics and cynics received a veil of darkness. Jesus revealed (reveals) motives. “The addictive quest for information and statistics can actually obscure the discovery of truth.” (43)

Jesus is a sacred friend who shares our suffering and desires our fellowship. We can trust him with our weaknesses. Jesus knows all about us and still accepts us. He has taken our punishment upon himself and still forgives us. He restores relationships.

Jesus was a servant leader. He demanded devotion and obedience that would result in rewards. Jesus identifies with our sorrows. He is the author of community.

Jesus loves us! In him we are more than conquerors.
