Real Life Stuff for Men.

Book Review

McLaughlin, Tim. Real Life Stuff For Men. A Bible discussion guide. NavPress. 2005

This is a four book series that is designed to provide a guide for selected topics for small group interaction (for men).

Chasing God With Three Flat Tires.
Topics deal with our pursuit of God and faith related issues.

Juggling Chainsaws on a Tightrope.
Topics relate to stress and to actually thrive under stress.

Leaning Into a Hail of Bullets.
The whole area of temptations that threaten our lives is dealt with.

Treading Water in an Empty Pool.
Here the focus is on principles dealt with in movies, literature, and especially God’s Word, that help us tackle the tough stuff of life.

Each topic is approached the same way. Bible passages and contributions from a variety of authors are part of the guide. Then relevant questions are considered applying the truths to the topic under discussion. Participants are encouraged to be involved by writing their own responses to questions in spaces provided in the guide. Each book contains eight topics and could become an eight week session.

These guides are tools and the practical value of that ‘tool’ will depend on the ‘craftsman’ using the tool. If I had the responsibility of leading a small group of men I would certainly consider these resources. (Henry)
