Nobody's Child.

Book Review

Noble, Christina. Nobody’s Child. Grove Press, New York. 1994

When I go the library for a supply of reading material I always swing by the ‘biography’ section. This title caught my attention last week.

Christina grew up as a street child in Dublin, Ireland. Her life was very harsh. She experienced very little love and a whole lot of violence and abuse. This makes her work with the street children of Vietnam all the more amazing. Her work with and passion for these children was fueled by a powerful dream, vision in which she was shown what she should do and where she should do it.

Christina Noble shares her painful yet wonderful story of love and compassion for needy children, especially the street children of Saigon.
Her story is gripping, heartrending, harsh, etc. It takes the meaning of survivor to a very high level. It graphically illustrates the extremes of good and evil in the heart of humanity.

Here is how this book has impacted me personally. Although this lady demonstrates many Christian traits, characteristics, she would not claim to be a Christian nor would she qualify to be called that (according to Barna’s list of evangelical Christian). How do I account for tremendous inner strength and courage to do what she did? This is obviously a God thing. All love originates from God whether we know it or not.

I think this story has made me more tolerant and accepting of demonstrations of Christianity from people who do claim to be and don’t want to be thought of as Christians. This has been an inspiring read for me.
